Spengler Cup Davos

The Spengler Cup Davos is one of Switzerland’s most prestigious sporting events. Around 100,000 visitors travel to Davos each year to enjoy the unique atmosphere in and around the Davos Ice Stadium, which is often described as the most beautiful arena in Europe – or even the world.The trophy bearing the same name was first presented in 1923 by the tournament’s founder, Dr. Carl Spengler. The Davos physician, Dr. med. Carl Spengler, was an enthusiastic supporter of HC Davos, founded in 1921. In his effort to support his club – and at the same time to help reconcile nations divided by the First World War through sporting competition – he donated a challenge cup at Christmas 1923.As stated in the deed of foundation, his aim was to offer formerly hostile nations the opportunity to rediscover mutual understanding and trust through fair and friendly competition, and to extend a hand of camaraderie to one another.
